Tracking links & coupon codes for affiliate

Difference Between Tracking Links & Coupon Codes on the Affiliate Dashboard

Your affiliate dashboard provides two tools to track referrals and earn commissions: Tracking Links and Coupon Codes.

Although both credit the sale or advertiser to you, they work in different ways and are useful in different situations.

This article explains the difference so you can choose the right option for your promotional strategy.

Tracking links are unique URLs meant for online promotion.

Whenever someone clicks your link and signs up or onboards, the system automatically tracks them as your referral.

  • You share your unique referral link
  • The user clicks it → a tracking cookie is stored
  • If they sign up or onboard within the cookie window, you get the commission

Best for:

  • Social media promotions
  • Paid ads
  • YouTube descriptions
  • Influencers, creators, or partners with audiences

Tracking links work even if the user forgets to mention your name — the system automatically attributes the referral to you.

2. Coupon Codes

Coupon codes are manual discount codes that the user enters during onboarding.

How coupon codes work:

  • You share a code like THREASURY10
  • The user enters this coupon at sign-up/onboarding
  • They receive a discount (10%) on starter plan
  • You get the referral commission according to the plan they chose

Best for:

  • Personal sales conversations
  • WhatsApp / Telegram chats
  • Closed community groups

Many affiliates use coupons for direct conversations where sharing a link may not be convenient.

4. Do Both Provide Commissions?

Yes — both methods give you lifetime commissions as long as the referred advertiser remains active.

Whether they signed up through:

  • Your tracking link
  • Your coupon code
  • Or both

The referral will be automatically registered under your affiliate account.

If a user signs up without clicking your link and without entering your coupon, the referral cannot be added later manually.

Summary

  • Tracking links = Best for online reach, automatic tracking
  • Coupon codes = Best for personal sharing, manual entry
  • Both methods credit the referral to you and generate commissions
  • Use both depending on your audience and promotion style
